The Commercial Technical Institute for surveyors, programmers, accountants, graphic designers "V.Emanuele III" of Lucera was established with R.D. dated 16th October 1924. From November 1924 to the present day, the Institute has had three offices: the first in Piazza S. Francesco, the current headquarters of the Court of Lucera, the second in Piazza Nocelli, at the "Palazzo De Troia", the current seat of the Registry Office and of the Justice of the Peace, the third and current one in Viale Dante. Fifteen Institute heads have followed one another over the years. From 1st September 2021 this function is held by headmistress Laura Filomena Flagella.

Born as a Commercial Technical Institute, it has adapted, over time, to the needs of users and the world of work, enriching itself with new professional subjects, such as Construction, Environment and Territory – Bio-architecture & Interior Design, Graphics and communication, Chemistry, Materials and Biotechnologies, Health Biotechnologies branch.

Our school is located in a town in the south east of Italy. It is a rural area with students coming from several towns of the province and every day they reach our school by bus. Lucera has a very important historical heritage: it was the favourite hunting place of Frederick II of Swabia and his presence is witnessed by a nice castle which stands on a hill. There are 520 students aged 14-19 and 88 teachers. Some teachers are specialized in special needs and care of disabled students. We also have extra activities like a school magazine, Maths and poetry contest, graphic design exhibitions and internship in the world of work.

The Institute is made up of two communicating buildings, in which the classrooms, the laboratories, the video room, the library, the “Aula Magna” (meeting hall), the Headmistress’s room and Administrative offices are located.

A wide space outside with a basketball court, a football pitch and the gymnasium, equipped with multi-purpose equipment, are used not only for physical education lessons, but also for extra-curricular sports initiatives, being the largest outdoor and indoor sports facility in Lucera. The Institute, within the enclosure that surrounds it, has large spaces used for cultural and sporting events.

The library, located on the first floor of the building, has about 9,000 volumes and is enriched and updated every year. It also includes some historic 78rpm records from the period between World War I and World War II. Since the 1999/2000 school year, the Institute has become a school-pole of the project for the promotion of school libraries in Lucera, a project approved by the Regional School Office and promoted by the Municipality of Lucera, in order to improve their organization and the functioning. It is accredited as a professional training institution in the Puglia region for the areas of higher education, disadvantage and continuous training.

Considering the technological resources available, the Institute has also been recognized as a Test-Center by AICA and therefore organizes preparation courses aimed at obtaining the European ECDL certificate. Moreover, we organize courses to improve foreign languages and prepare our students to pass B1 and B2 levels. Considering the many years of experience in the sector, the Institute is in charge of training for schools that undertake the school-work alternation path and finally becomes the seat of the school for the implementation of the Work Exchange project. The Technical Economic Institute "V. Emanuele III” of Lucera provides training in the following five fields of study:

In our school, the sector regarding technology is very keen on the several problems of environment. Most of our teachers are engineers, architects, biologists and others got a degree from the department of agriculture food and environmental sciences. Our students are involved in projects in the forests nearby or have a direct experience in agriculture because their parents are farmers.

Last year the students attending the sector Graphics and communication worked on a project called “Revaluation of the Cimino Forest”. They had to create a logo, slogans, compelled signs and advertise the beauty of a clean and safe forest.  The whole school has always organized a campaign to keep the town clean and put containers to collect paper, glass and plastic. (Well, we must say that people in Lucera are very attentive to separate waste collection. The Major has organized door to door collection and people respect it). We always take part in conferences and online courses to draw our students’ attention to the negative effects of pollution, climate change, greenhouse gases, melting polar ice cap, and in the local competition for the best school garden. Last year’s theme was “A flower for Ukraine: decorate your garden with blue and yellow flowers”.

Moreover, in every class we have 33 hours every school year dedicated to Civics and sustainable development (Agenda 2030) to make our students understand environmental awareness. The students in our school have got good competences in all kinds of computer works, they can use several programmes, produce videos, photos and use 3D printer.
